MR. D SCHOLARSHIP FUND
On June 14, 2019 we lost our original founder David L DeAngelis Jr.
In 1982, David L. DeAngelis Jr. founded the Westerly High School Theatre Scrapbook Company. More than just an after school drama club, the program brought together students, teachers, parents, administrators, and volunteers from Westerly and the surrounding Rhode Island and Connecticut communities. For 32 years, WHS’s Theatre Scrapbook Company helped to form and change the lives of thousands of participants and audience members.
During that time, Mr. D as he was lovingly referred to by nearly everyone who knew him, served as the choir director, guitar, and keyboard teacher at Westerly High School. It was his life’s work to bring the joy of music to as many people he could. He always said that “It may not be Broadway, but we should always strive to achieve the very best quality we can.”

It was with those sentiments in mind, that his tradition and legacy was continued through our current interpretation of Theatre Scrapbook. He loved coming to all of the shows and supporting the children throughout the years. He was always so impressed with each production and the growth the children made over their time in our programs.
We will miss having him in our audience, but encourage everyone to keep his memory alive and remember the advice he gave to us all “always keep a song in your heart and keep on singing”
The David Louis DeAngelis Jr. Scholarship Fund was created in the summer of 2019 in honor of DeAngelis.
The scholarship — suggested by young people who have taken part in the program — will allow children to attend summer camp at Theatre Scrapbook. The idea for the scholarship came from a few families and children from the programs who suggested they create a scholarship in his name, a scholarship fund that would provide partial funding for a student to attend the summer camps.
